2110 Centre for Gender Advocacy
The 2110 Centre for Gender Advocacy is an independent student-funded Concordia University organization that promotes gender equality and empowerment, particularly as it relates to marginalized communities. Gender oppression is inextricably linked to social and economic justice, and we work within a feminist framework, in support and solidarity with broader social movements, to challenge systemic oppressions.

Along with a variety of programming and campaigns, the Centre provides respectful, confidential peer-to-peer support, advocacy, and resources with a focus on harm reduction, empowerment and self-determination; houses a resource centre and libraries; and offers accessible spaces that can be used to facilitate community organizing and action.

Stay tuned for our back to School intro to Gender Advocacy and Organizing event series in September and Peer Support trainings in October. Visit, volunteer, hangout!

QPIRG McGill
The Quebec Public Interest Research Group at McGill (QPIRG McGill) is a student funded, autonomous, non-profit organization that strives to raise awareness and motivate grassroots activism around diverse social and environmental justice issues. QPIRG McGill is run by a student volunteer Board of Directors, elected through campus wide elections each March. The Board of Directors is responsible for all decisions pertaining to the operation of the organization.

Aside from QPIRG’s own events, collaborations and projects, QPIRG serves as an umbrella organization with many autonomous organizations and projects working with us. These projects range from radical frosh to school schmool, from working groups to summer research stipends just to name a few.

Furthermore, QPIRG actively promotes research opportunities for students on campus and in the community. We offer summer research funding and the CURE (Community-University Research Exchange) project for students interested in linking their classroom research with community organizations and projects. The QPIRG Library offers students and the general public hundreds of books, films, zines, and magazines that you won’t find at university or public libraries.

We encourage you stop by QPIRG, or visit our website www.qpirgmcgill.org, at any time to find out about the many more things we have to offer!

The Unitarian Church of Montreal
The Unitarian Church of Montreal is proud to be an intentionally inclusive community. We welcome people from all walks of life, from different religious traditions, cultural backgrounds, socio-economic conditions, gender identity, and sexual orientation. Together we affirm the inherent worth and dignity of every individual, and encourage each other to grow and stretch spiritually.

Even though we were founded in 1842 as the first Unitarian Universalist congregation in Canada, we are far from stuffy. We are a Welcoming Congregation, which means that we have done much work to become a community that is committed to being open and affirming of people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. Our minister and lay chaplains have long officiated at same sex weddings (and before that, civil unions). In fact, Unitarian Universalism is one of the few religions that ordains openly lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender ministers.

If you are looking for a spiritual community that will welcome and nurture you as you are, please come visit us any Sunday at 10:30 a.m. (We’re close to the Vendôme Metro.) If you are in need of spiritual support, you may wish to contact our minister.

Ethnoculture’s primary mandate is to organize bilingual (French and English) social/cultural/artistic events and programming which raises awareness and provides visibility for lesbian, gay, bisexual, two-spirited, trans and queer (LGBT-STQ) people from ethnic/racial and indigenous communities in the Montreal area by prioritizing self-representation and showcasing their diverse skills, talents and knowledge. By fostering relationships and centring the experiences of queer/trans people of colour, Ethnoculture builds solidarity through critical consciousness-raising. Activities include workshops, educational panels, artistic performances/presentations, youth focused programming and a community fair. One of our main objectives is to engage in dialogue and challenge multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination. Our annual event will be on Saturday, September 24th, 2011. The McGill Savoy Society
The McGill Savoy Society is Canada’s oldest student-affiliated Gilbert & Sullivan troupe, dedicated to the preservation and production of high-quality G&S operettas. Since the society’s first performance in the piano room of Molson Hall in 1963, they have become a well-known name within the Montreal Anglophone theatre community, performing their annual operettas within McGill’s Moyse Hall. Past productions have included G&S’ greatest hits, such as “The Mikado,” “HMS Pinafore” and the wildly successful “Pirates of Penzance” in 2010. They hope to remain faithful to G&S’ original theatrical goals, whilst making their Victorian-era works accessible to modern audiences.

In addition to this, Savoy is committed to creating opportunities for new experiences and encouraging creative expression throughout the McGill and Montreal community by means of workshops, events (such as the highly successful dance party/fundraiser “Into The Wilde” with Queer McGill) and theatrical sideshows. The organization values friendship, cultural preservation and the marriage between the traditional and the modern.

Visit their website (www.mcgillsavoy.ca) to find out more about the society and their productions!
